Gus Constantinos Stivachtis age 62 of Woodbridge, beloved husband of 34 years to Rita Gasper Stivachtis passed away peacefully on Saturday August 20, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Born in Skopelos, Greece, he was the son of the late Nikolas and Magdaline Stivachtis. Gus left Greece in his early 20’s and traveled to the U.S. where he found his passion for cooking. He was a professional cook, winning awards as a baker and chef; an entrepreneur in several different professions; and a successful Insurance Agent, known for his honesty, integrity, and compassion. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Rita, Gus leaves behind his loving son Nicholas Stivachtis, sister Maria Asteriadis, sister-in-law Eleni Poulos, brother-in-law William Gasper and wife Arden, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George Stivachtis, mother-in-law Mary Gasper, and brother-in-law Lee Gasper. The family would like to thank Yale New Haven Hospital, East Pavilion 6th Floor for their care and compassion for Gus.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday August 25, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm at The Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport with Trisagion services at 5 pm in the funeral home. The Rite of Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave Bridgeport with Fr.
