Maria S. Savo age 95 of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 18, 2016. Born on March 4, 1921 in Torrice, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Crescenzo and Natalina Arduini Diomira Santangelli. She was happily married to Luigi Savo of Torrice for 30 years until his passing in 1968. She had three beautiful daughters: Nicolina, Mafalda and Lidia. She lived in Italy until 1955 when the family moved to the United States to follow the American dream. The family was surrounded with many relatives in America and enjoyed hosting and participating in Sunday family dinners and holiday gatherings. Maria was a seamstress in Bridgeport for many years and worked very hard to provide for her family and grandchildren. She valued the American dollar and instilled strong work values to her children and grandchildren. Maria helped her eldest daughter with the upbringing of her three grandchildren during difficult times. She raised the three boys as if they were her own children and taught them the Italian language and traditions. She was particularly close with her grandson, Louie, and spent countless hours assisting him with his physical disability and remained a constant in his adult life. She loved her family and was always there to help and support them in whatever they needed. She was the matriarch of her family after her husband’s passing and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are for the better because of her love and constant support.
She is predeceased by her husband, Luigi Savo, her daughter, Nicolina D’Arcangelo, and her two grandchildren: Lino D’Arcangelo and Louie D’Arcangelo. She is survived by her daughter, Mafalda D’Arcangelo, her son-in law Florindo D’Arcangelo of Bridgeport; her daughter Lidia Testani and her son in-law Egidio Testani of Milford; and her son in-law Giovanni D’Arcangelo of Bridgeport. Her six grandchildren include: John D’Arcangelo, Christina D’Arcangelo and her husband Eduardo Aguilar, Domenic Testani and his wife Elizabeth Testani, Claudine Testani, Rocco D’Arcangelo, Melissa Rotondo and her husband Nicholas Rotondo. Her nine great children include: Bryanna, Giovanni, Taylor, Lino Jr., Giuliana, Gabriella, Alexander, Matthew and Ryan.
