William Vasil
William “Bill” Vasil, Sr., of Easton, died peacefully on March 7th, 2017. He was 96. He leaves
his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Alice (Adams) Vasil, his son Bill, Jr. and his wife, Sunny,
his daughter Elizabeth (Bette) Bramante and her husband, Fred, of Durham, New Hampshire.
He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Christopher, Doria and her husband, Markus,
Candice and her husband, Christopher, Michael and his wife, Angela and great-grandchildren,
Maceo, Giana, and Tess. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Christy G. Adams, his wife,
Cheryl, nieces, Christina and Hannah of Shelton, Connecticut, nephew, Christopher Adams of
Hartford, nephew Taqi Pema of Tirane, Albania and other loving family members who were very dear to him. Bill was born in Dishnice, Albania in 1921. A quiet place that you wouldn’t find if you weren’t looking for it. He spent his days playing barefoot soccer with friends, chasing around his cherished dog Buby and riding his prized bicycle which was admired by all the village children. He attended Lycée, in Korce where he learned French, which he continued to enjoying speaking throughout his days. He immigrated to America at 14, traveling solo on the S.S. President Roosevelt. The same ship that, a few years later, took him to the Pacific to serve as a combat medic in World War II. After his years of service, Bill was blessed with the good fortune to return safely from the Pacific campaign. Upon returning from the war, he earned an accounting degree at Bridgeport Community College and met and married his life-long love, Alice. Together they owned and managed United Food in Bridgeport for 40 years. He was a life-long member of St. George’s Orthodox Church. Hard working, generous, humble and a true gentleman, he enjoyed time spent with his family sharing the stories of his youth.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 10:30am in St. George Albanian Orthodox Church, 5490 Main Street in Trumbull with the Archpriest Dennis Rhodes officiating, interment to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield with full military honors. Friends are invited to call on Saturday morning from 10am until time of service in the church.
