Leo J. Colloca, age 93, originally of Corona, NY and who has resided on Park Avenue, in Bridgeport, CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2017. He was one of the 8 beloved children of the late Santi and Maria Antonia (Berté) Colloca, who immigrated from Sicily, Italy. Leo was a resident of Copiague, NY, and then moved to Queens, NY, prior to relocating to Connecticut. He was an accomplished athlete while in high school, excelling in baseball and football. Leo was married on December 24, 1949 to Harriet Feinsilver, of Wilkesbarre, PA. They built their life between Long Island and Queens, joyfully raising their only child Sharon. Leo was a veteran of World War II and proudly served his country overseas in France and Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army on November 4, 1945. Leo “Spike” Colloca was known for his memorable, on-the-field heroics, in competitive sports. He won fans as a key versatile performer, on the Copiague Nine Red Wings baseball team of the post war 1940’s. Leo was also an avid Bingo player and enjoyed day-trips with friends and family. Survivors include his caring sister Lucy Guillies, of Nevada, loving Granddaughter Melissa Tiago, devoted son-in-law Fernando Tiago, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Leo’s life on Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 2-4 PM, at the Commerce Hill Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made in loving memory of Leo to a charity of choice.
