Francisco Diaz Jr., a longtime Trumbull resident passed away on Saturday April 15, 2017. He was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico but grew up in Bridgeport, CT and graduated from Harding High School. He worked for many years at Bridgeport Machines but retired from Pitney Bowes of Danbury. After his high school graduation he joined the United States Marines and served in Vietnam as a member of Lima 3/7. He was a corporal upon being discharged in 1968 to wounds received in war. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medial, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and a Presidential Unit Citation. He is preceded into heaven by his father Francisco Diaz and his mother Ana Josefa Rodriguez of Caguas PR. Francisco is survived by his wife Delia Diaz, his stepfather Augustin Del Valle, daughters Mei Lee and Christina Diaz, his son Francisco Diaz and his fiancé Emily Padilla. He will be missed by his four grandchildren Arianna, Aiden, Victoria and Kiara. Francisco had recently been granted guardianship of Mariah Acevedo. He also leaves behind four sisters Norma, Carmen, Edna and Rosemary, many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday April 21, 2017 at 10:30am in St. Mary Church, 25 Sherman St. Bridgeport followed by interment in State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown with full military honors. In abiding with his wishes, calling hours have been omitted. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of Francisco.
