Richard K. Mealey Sr. age 80 Bridgeport, loving husband of 57 years to Bernice Girgasky Mealey passed away peacefully on Monday July 31, 2017. Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on September 29, 1936 to the late Ed and Ruth Paugh Mealey. Richard grew up in Bridgeport where he graduated from Harding High School then served his country in the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, NC. He served as a medic when needed and loved being a paratrooper. Proud of his service in the military to a point of extending his paratrooper experience on a yearly vacation in the Bahamas to helping other participants in parasailing over the Caribbean. After his military service, he worked for Carpenter Technology for 30 year and the Town of Trumbull in the Public Works Dept. before retiring. He enjoyed life through sports and participated in bowling, softball and golf leagues in Bridgeport and Trumbull. He loved watching his favorite baseball team the NY Yankees and all major golf tours. He made it a point in life to see as much of the country as he could vacationing throughout the Eastern United States. Richard devoted much of his time with his family and friends while sharing some spare time watching the ducks who called “home” the pond in his backyard. He will be missed by all.
Survivors in addition to his wife Bernice are his two sons Richard K. Mealey of Trumbull, Scott A. Mealey and wife Nina of Bridgeport, grandchildren Brooke, Scott Jr., Lauren and Adam Mealey, great-grandchildren Chase and Nathan, sister Linda Sue and husband James Feller and brother Eddie and wife Beverly Mealey. He was predeceased by his brother William Mealey and sister Carol Black.
In abiding with Richard’s wishes all services will be private with interment to take place in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
