Spero G. Mike age 93 years old and born in Bridgeport, CT, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his home in Fairfield. He is survived by his partner Delores Miele, his sister Mary Mike Shawah, his brother John Mike and wife Lillian. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Theresa Chachakis, his brother Nicholas Mike and wife Patricia, and his brother-in-law George Shawah Sr.
Spero attended BEI and then served his country in the United States Navy in 1943. There he enrolled in Oklahoma A&M U.S. Naval Training School where he attained an Electricity and Radio Material Certification. He then studied at Ohio State University under the G.I. Bill where he received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree in 1948. He eventually earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering as well, from the University of Bridgeport as a part time student in 1967. As an engineer, he was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft and Avco Lycoming in Stratford, and Consolidated Controls and Condec in Danbury. He was dedicated to the St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, and was a member of the YMCA and Italian Community Center as an avid handball and racquetball player. He was always sharp and will be remembered by his family and friends for his knack for numbers, chess and hilarious jokes.
Friends are invited to attend the Rite of Burial on Friday September 15, 2017 at 11am in St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 5458 Park Ave, Bridgeport with Archpriest Romanos Malouf and Archdeacon Sami Bal officiating followed by interment in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport with full military honors. Calling hours will take place on Friday morning from 10am until time of service in the church. The Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport have been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport in memory of Spero.
