George Barmashi, age 88, of Shelton, CT entered into eternal life on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Born in Boston, MA on October 12, 1928 son of the late Vasilios and Lemijtha (Adams) Barmashi, George was raised in the Back Bay section of Boston and Somerville, MA where he graduated from Somerville High School at age 16. Later that year, upon turning 17, he persuaded his mother sign enlistment papers to join the U.S. Navy where he proudly served for over 2 years during WWII. From there he enrolled in the University of New Hampshire and became part of Wildcats history in 1950 when the school’s football team went undefeated, a record his team holds until this day. Upon graduation he worked most of his career in the automotive industry retiring from Chrysler Credit in 1990. His greatest joy in his life was his family.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years Antonette (Pano) of Shelton, who loving cared for him as his Alzheimer’s disease progressed, his daughter Kimberley and her husband John of Milford. The loves of his life were his grandchildren, Sarah Davis and her husband Brian of Milford and Chelsey O’Brien of Stratford. His brother Peter and his wife Alice of Cape Cod, MA, brother-in-law Nicholas Pano of Macomb, IL and many cherished nephews and nieces. George was a soon-to-be Great-Grandfather. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Gladys Bailey who cared for him in his final stages. George’s faith was a very important part of his life as he was a member of both Holy Trinity Church in South Boston and St George Albanian Orthodox Church in Trumbull.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 4-7pm at St George Albanian Orthodox Church, 5490 Main Street, Trumbull, with Trisagion services at 6:30pm in the church. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11am in St. George Church with the Archpriest Dennis Rhodes officiating followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St George Church.
